“This book was adorable.  I remember when I was expecting my third child and seeing how my middle son was excited and scared.  He had been our baby for such a long time.  We told stories and talked endlessly about what the new baby would be like.  A book like this would have helped smooth that transition.  See Sam (the soon to be big brother) has a lot of changes happening and he is just trying to figure them all out.  In the end he really does grow up a bit and starts to see how exciting that can be.”
    — Samantha Anderson, AsTheyGrowUp.com

“In this series of books Adrienne Durkin is giving parents everywhere a useful tool to help them with their children.  This is a topic that almost everyone can relate to and it’s written in easy to understand language that teaches children how to voice their fears and concerns.  And added bonus is the fun facts about armadillos section at the end. ”
    — Sandra Cruz, Examiner.com

“This is a good book for families that make a lot of changes in preparation for the arrival of a new baby, like moving the older child to a new bedroom. Sam’s unique armadillo friend Coodles is the new “security blanket”, assisting Sam with these changes. Children will enjoy learning about armadillos in the Fun Facts section at the end of the story!”
    — Carrie Wells, HuppiaMama.com

“The text and illustrations in The Room at the End of the Hall inspired by author Adrienne Durkin’s own life experiences raising her own son are a bridge to better understanding. It is easy to imagine a child being the center of his family’s word being frightened when faced with change; however, accepting negative feelings about what one still doesn’t know takes time and effort.

I eagerly await the rest of the series.” — Pat Marsden, HereandThere.com

“While aimed toward a single child expecting a sibling, this story is a helpful aid to any child who is moving into a new house or room or one that is fascinated with armadillos. Durkin did an excellent job focusing on the child’s emotions while illustrating clearly the fear, joy and acceptance dealing with changes in a family’s dynamics. If one does not know much about this strange nine-banded “little armored thing,” this book is a good starting point for a youngster.” — Conny Withay, ConnyWithay.wordpress.com

“Moms everywhere should read Adrienne Durkin’s first book in the Sam and Coodles Series to their little ones. Not only does it introduce ways for children to deal with the birth of a new baby brother or sister, but it also enlightens the mom on the subject of communicating with the child!” — Lyss Stern – Founder, DivaMoms.com

“Meet Sam and Coodles, the first in a series of books that will help your little one deal with the challenges of accepting a new baby in the house. I wish I’d had this to read to our three oldest grandkids when they were accepting new siblings into their lives.” — Sue Johnson, co-author, Grandloving: Making Memories with Your Grandchildren, 5th edition

“Durkin captures the true essence of a young child nervously awaiting the birth of a baby brother or sister.” — Alison Qualter Berna, Co-Founder, appleseedsplay.com

“What a gentle way of teaching that scary changes can be good things. Sam’s stuffed friend Coodles gives him the kind of snuggly security and comfort that children will relate to, and parents will appreciate and remember from their own childhoods. Watterson brought us Hobbes; Milne gave us Pooh; now Durkin introduces us to Coodles. A winning theme! Sweet illustrations draw the reader into the story.” — Lisa Kay Hauser, National award-winning children’s author

  • About the Author

Adrienne Durkin realized her passion for writing books shortly after the birth of her first child. Her son gave her lots of story ideas, and she began to jot them down. The inspiration for the Sam and Coodles Series began the minute Adrienne and her husband moved their son out of the room next door and down the hall to make room for their daughter.

Adrienne and her family live in Westport, CT, with their Tibetan Terrier, Bella.
